Francesco La Camera appointed Director General of IRENA

The International Renewable Energy Agency has selected Italian environment ministry official Francesco La Camera as its next director general.

La Camera, who serves as director general for energy and climate at the Italian Ministry of Environment, will succeed Adnan Amin from 4 April.

He will serve a four-year term and lead the IRENA secretariat and implantation of the organisation’s work programme and budget.

La Camera led the EU and Italian negotiation teams at the climate COP 20 in Lima and was the head of the Italian delegation to the three previous COPs.

From 2003 to 2010 he was also professor of environmental and land economics at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Rome Tre.
